Week 9 Term 1- last week of term
As I reflect on Term 1 for 2012 I am immensely proud of the learning progress that all students have made.No longer are the Year I students just out of Level 1, they are now further developing their independent thinking, learning confidence and skill level.
The Year 2 students have been wonderful mentors during Term 1 and now are being challenged to think at a higher level and from different perspectives, reflect on their learning and with guidance set learning goals.
This week our learning focus areas include -
- using punctuation in literacy - both reading and writing,
- the letter 'e' in handwriting
- the long 'e' sound as in Easter, see, family
- Newstime - How our family celebrates Easter / the holidays. Each student has nominated a day of the week as their News day. Please check your child's diary.
- 2D and 3D shapes in numeracy with particular relevance to everyday objects.
Please be aware that school will be finishing at 2.30 on Friday, one hour earlier than normal.
Happy holidays to our 1/2B community...perhaps even 'Hoppy Easter'.

Ride 2 School Day tomorrow-Friday 23/3
Hopefully uou ahve remembered that tomorrow is Ride 2 School Day where families and students are encouraged to leave the car at home and travel to school via alternative wheels -bikes, scooters, skates etc. Even when you live quite some distance from school, perhaps consider driving some way and taking an alternative method for the final leg.
The Prep - 2 bike parade is on at approx 2.45 and you are invited to come and watch. Weather permitting naturally.

Term 1 Week 7
Our major learning focus areas for this short week are-
- Literacy - basic punctuation -identifying and using full stops, capital letters and question marks. We have used this focus in both reading and writing activities. Group reading activities have started in earnest this week.
- Handwriting / spelling - the letter 'f' and words with the 'f, ff' sound.
- Numeracy - The dimension of Space - features of 2D & 3D shapes, investigating corners and sides and discovering that there many different shapes with 4 sides and 4 corners. Ask your child about the rhombus!
The WOW! Board
When you visit the A block Level 2 classrooms do try to check out the WOW Board in the hallway. Here students are displaying their fabulous independent learning activities that they have chosen to work on at home. You will see information about manta rays, snakes and the latest area of interest - the Titanic and the Queen Mary 2. This purely student initiated learning is a joy to behold. Do call in to have a look.

I am very pleased to advise that 1-2B has now joined the world of blogging. The purpose of this blog is to provide a method of communication between our class learning community, this includes students, parents and teachers.
All going well, regular posts will be updated regularly and I do hope that you find the information useful and perhaps at times even amusing.
Until I become more familliar with the process you will be able to access this site and at a later stage you will be able to add a comment. Happy reading!
